Belconnen Skatepark
Rebuilt in 2011 by the amazing folks at Convic (see the details here http://www.convic.com/projects/belconnen) this is truly one of Australia best skateparks. It all starts at the western end with the original 10ft keyhole bowl before descending quickly (via a big stair set) into an epic snakebowl of roiling, curving, taco-ing tranny’s that wrap up in a stunning 8ft bowl. You can get lost in these virtual waves before finally hitting the lip and the deep-end. Once you exit the bowl you are immediately greeted with a cracking 4ft mini with a couple of extension, sure it has some big coping, but its still rock solid and when its not filled with scooter kids you can have a lot of fun here.
On the lower level running alongside the snakebowl/mini is the eclectic street plaza. An inspired collection of stair sets, boxes, tacos, manual pads, ledges and various street bits – simply too much to try and detail here. Importantly tho it caters to skaters of all skill levels, weather you’re just learning you’re first ollie’s onto a manual pad or tray flipping a 7-stair, there is something here to keep you busy for hours. The surface is silky smooth and fast and all of the lips, edging and coping are in great condition given its only a couple of years old.
Apart from the awesomeness of the actual skatepark, one of the highlights of Belco is that its open and under full lights till 11:30pm every night – so you can really have a full day here. And you need it. The only downside is the scooters… lots of scooters everywhere, especially in the school holidays.
Heaps of food, parking and amenities around. There really is no excuse not to visit!
Tuggeranong Skatepark
When it opened in the late 90’s Tuggeranong Skatepark was one of the best in Australia, an epic collection of vert and street beautifully positioned on the edge Lake Tuggeranong. That was a long time ago and although its still a lot of fun to skate, its time for an upgrade. The surface is showing its age, the coping is well beat up and its all just a bit sad looking.
The eclectic setup starts with a couple of unique half-pipe relics that have a cement base but a metal surface. The large one is around 12ft and the smaller around 8ft and while they are fast and furious the surface is full of kinks and dents and edges that stick out. There’s also a decent amount of rust and gunk – just like the bark rings of of tree Im sure it has captured a rich history, its just not the best surface to skate on. The street section is a series of 5-6ft quarters (including a spine) scattered around the perimeter as well as a small central funbox. There’s also a fun 3ft mini hiding up the back and a weird snake run thing that ends with a mini half-bowl… eclectic right? If you’re in Canberra its worth checking out, but there’s a lot more on offer at Belco and Woden
Located with in the grounds of the luscious Tuggeranong Town Park there’s plenty of amenities around including BBQ’s, a Leisure Centre, playground and plenty of free parking. You could probably even go fishing if you were really keen. A 10 minute walk south east takes you to ‘downtown’ Tuggeranong where you can find a decent feed and also Trilogy Skateshop for all your skateboarding hardware needs.

Playgrounds Park Warners Bay
Playgrounds Park is an impressive warehouse filled to the brim with skateboarding awesomeness. The park is spread fairly tightly over a decent sized warehouse and it all starts with a cracking 2.5ft mini (with hump). This thing is just perfect for anyone starting with transition skateboarding, a silky smooth surface with coping that sits beautifully. In fact it’s such a perfect mini that anyone can have great session just banging around, you really have to check this thing out – it’s that much fun.
Leading on from the mini is an L shaped plywood street section. It features a smattering of stairs, rails, quarters, banks and a euro and although it’s tight, it works well and links up beautifully with the Mini Bowl.
The Mini Bowl is like the bigger, more beautiful version of the mini ramp. Its about 3ft deep but includes a nice little extension at the far end. The coping is a little bigger and you certainly notice it more, but thats a good thing. The transitions are tighter and once again the surface is perfect (it’s called Skatelite, it’s amazeballs).
Beside the bowl are a couple of big dipper styled roll-ins, one looks about 1oft and leads to a soft rubber landing and some bigger transitions. The other scales around 15ft and leads to an epic foam pit. These are heavily geared towards scooters and BMX’rs, but there’s plenty of airs and grabs you can be working on – so check them out.
But wait, there’s more! Beyond the epic roll-ins and mini’s there’s an extra special 6ft half-pipe. Hiding out the back, away from the scooters and juniors lies the final piece of the puzzle, a wonderfully crafted half-pipe and given the limitations of the space it provides enough to keep the hardcore skater dudes more than happy. While it lacks the Skatelite surface (its plywood) it’s otherwise perfect in every way, and even though it doesn’t quite hit vert – its killer.
Oh, there’s also some impressive trampoline’s, a bunch of lounges and even a hangout area for the mum’s and dad’s… and the promise of much more to come. Limited free parking and plenty of amenities/food nearby make tis one awesome day out!

The vast street course is a dizzying maze of banks, hubba’s, rails, spines and stairs that has to be seen to be believed. And If you’re into vert, the monster half-pipe standing at just under 14ft should keep you entertained.
The park is meticulously maintained and the masonite surfaces and coping on of all the ramps is nothing short of perfect – silky smooth and fast.
The Shed is also loaded with other facilities including: A skate shop with a great range of decks, safety gear and clothing. A kiosk with all the food/drinks to get you through a solid day of shredding. And an elevated viewing platform for the parents to hang out and get a birds eye view. There’s also lockers, bathrooms and plenty of free parking.

Spotswood Halfpipe
Spotswood is home to a classic old steel vert half-pipe (very much like Prahran) . She stands around 12ft tall by our reckoning and has probably seen better days. The surface is looking a little old and battered (rusty) and has a few kinks in places, but that aside this is a decent enough vert ramp… I mean it is what it is. Vert skating is becoming somewhat neglected so its great to see these old monuments surviving and more than able to host a solid session. One thing’s for sure, you won’t have any trouble with scooter kids or BMX’rs here!

It features a series of 4-5ft banks at one end and range of 5ft open bowl transitions and smaller quarters at the other. Completing the setup is a 3ft central bank with a small hubba and rails. There are also various elevated ledges, small boxes and grind rails scattered throughout. All together its and intriguing and delightful skatepark. The transitions and heights are perfect for the space and you can continually carve lines from one end to the other utilising the entire park – a lot of fun!
The surface is a little worn but not enough to slow you down and all the coping sits nicely. All in all this is a very solid little skatepark, we had an awesome session here and will definitely be back.
There’s (limited) street parking nearby, toilets and bubblers around. The park is right alongside a suburban AFL field with some basketball & tennis courts as well. Not a lot of shops immediately nearby so pack a sandwich.
Menai Skatepark
Menai Skatepark is a unique adventure and has been designed a little differently to the typical prefab suburban skatepark. The setup features a couple of conjoined 6ft half bowls on one side, a bank of varying height transitions at the other and a central flat area with an odd funbox. The bowls are joined with a kind of hip in the middle which makes them quite different. The funbox is strange octagon shape and probably too high given the surrounding space and access. The biggest problem here is the design just doesn’t provide enough speed to utilise any of the transitions (in part because the surface is slow and rough). You can drop in on the big quarter banks and just not make it all the way to the coping on the bowls on the other side. It’s a bit of a shame and lends itself more to the BMX’rs really.
The details look like this: Quarter trannies range from 9ft (vert) 4ft; Half-bowls are 8ft half and 6ft and finally two funboxes – the 4ft octagon shape model and the much more useful smaller one. The surface is rough, the coping average at best but there are lights for a night session.

The skatepark sits on the edge of a shopping centre and that provides all the amenities you’d need (parking, food, toilets). There’s also a larger surrounding park area that offers plenty of shade, BBQ’s and play equipment.
Macquarie Fields Skatepark
Macquarie Fields is home to a relatively new skatepark (constructed in 2011 by the awesome Convic) and first thing you notice is just how amazingly slick the surface is, so fast and smooth that just cruising around it is a delight! But you’ll quickly understand the epicness of the design – a smattering of bowls, transitions, boxes and banks spread over a large and well considered space. This would have to be one of Sydney’s best.
At one end it features a stunning bowl with a unique shape and beautiful transitions. The rest of the park is an open street course with all kinds of bits and pieces. There’s shallow banks with grindable edges and extensions, hubba’s galore and funboxes/rails that are perfectly positioned for full speed assult. There’s also a plethora of transitions including a corner section, a couple of open bowls and a hump with coping. It’s all pretty small in size (mostly around 3-4ft) so its good for skaters of all sizes, but its blazingly fast and super fun.
Being this awesome does mean that it is regularly packed (especially on the weekends). Tonnes of BMX’rs and younger scooter dudes fill the place – but so do a lot of skaters and it’s large enough that you can always find somewhere to have a decent jam. However you may not be able to do the end-to-end runs that make this skatepark so much fun.
As an added bonus it also has lights! (very rare in Sydney) tho we’ve not skated there after dark and you would want to be careful in this area at night. There’s plenty of free parking, bubblers, brand new toilets and the skatepark is part of a larger public space that also houses basketball and tennis courts. Campbeltown Skatepark (Leumeah)
Located at the fast-food crossroads in downtown Campbelltown is this slowly ageing skatepark (built over a decade ago). It’s not amazing but it is large, diverse and combines a few interesting bits and pieces that could make it worth a look. Spread over a vast area, the skatepark features a range of pyramid banks, funboxes, rails and transitions of various sizes (from 2ft-6ft). The epic canyon in the middle of the main transitions makes us think it was designed specifically with BMX’rs in mind, but there’s still some decent lines to be had here.
The hightlights are probably the two “minis”. The larger one (often dominated by BMX’rs) is a neat little 4ft that plays well, the smaller 2.5ft is just fun and a great place for the little skater dudes to hit the lip and hone their skills.
Overall this skatepark provides plenty to do but sadly you’ll spend a lot of time dodging scooters and BMX’s, and its fairly packed most of the time. Add to that a rough, slow surface and coping that’s been hammered by a constant barrage of local BMX dudes. There’s even lights but I wouldn’t recommend hitting this place at night… unless you have a posse.

Milton Bowl
Well after much searching we were about to give up on this one… and then we found it. Nothing more than a pile of rubble – recently crushed by big yellow machines. We’ve been told that in it’s day it was a decent (although very basic) bowl, but sadly it has seen its last session. R.I.P Milton Bowl.
One question remains tho, will they be replacing it with anything else? Or will this otherwise quiet suburban park just be for the ballers.

Galston Skatepark
Cracking little urban fringe skatepark and while it’s not easy to get to (a solid 1hr drive from Sydney CBD) it was well worth it the trip.
Spread over a small sized area, the street course has a plethora of banks, rails, stairs, hubba’s and fun-boxes. As well as a smattering of smaller quarters and a larger (3ft) curved transition. Lots of fun can be had just cruising around grinding, sliding and lip tricking the hell out of everything.
The centre piece is a beautiful old-school bowl that starts at about 6ft in the shallow and rises to 9ft in the deep. It features some chunky pool style cement coping, fairly tight transitions and much vert. The surface is a tad slippery and well worn but if you like shredding bowls, this one is solid.
The skatepark is part of a larger parks and recreational area that is full of pretty trees and fields and amenities like seating, bubblers and parking. There’s even a pool and canteen right next door.
Excellent skatepark!
Cherrybrook Skatepark
Odd little bowl hidden behind an epic sporting complex and shopping centre in the North West suburbs of greater Sydney. It’s odd in that it’s so very tiny in height (maybe, just maybe 3ft), yet it has an epic flat expanse in between the transitions. It’s basically a very wide open bowl thing with a couple of extensions. The surface is kind of course/rough and the coping is really small and buried. While its not the most enticing skatepark, it is perfectly suited to kiddie shredders & noobs. A great place to learn dropping and or rock-to-fakie’s on a small, forgiving bowl. Oh, and there’s lights!
Plenty of parking (not all free tho) and its right alongside a shopping complex so food & amenities abound. There’s are basketball & tennis courts and lots of grassy knoll’s around if that’s your thing.
Thornleigh Skatepark

Old Bar Beach Skatepark
Also known as the Rod Maguire Community Skatepark, this park only utilises a small space but it is jam packed with pre-fab goodness. Of all the pre-fab setups we’ve seen, this is probably one of the best. At each end it features a bank of 4-5ft transitions – some with coping, some just roll-ins. In between is a 2ft transitioned funbox that has a good elevated grind-box and a cracking hand-rail (about 7ft long).
What makes this park work is the fact that its a bit smaller in surface area, the flat between each of the 3 sections is shorter and the flow feels more like a couple of mini-ramps then a bunch of quarters. The central funbox is also more interesting than the usual pre-fab options. All together an entertaining and fun little skatepark.
Sadly the day we visited it was too wet to have a decent go here, but we’ll be back! Free parking and parkland and beach nearby, but proper amenities and food are a short walk/drive back up the main street.
Taree Skatepark
Taree Skatepark is a collection of pe-fab quarters, banks and boxes loosely arranged at the edge of Taree Park. The quarters come in all the usual shapes and sizes (4-5ft, some with coping, some roll-ins) while the banks are really just moulded cement mounds. The central funbox is bigger than usual here (similar to Harrington) and has a elevated rail/grind bar. The final piece in the puzzle is two 3ft quarters joined to form a spine.
The arrangement is a bit odd and hasn’t been that well thought out, but you can still string a few tricks together – especially from the larger roll-in onto the funbox. The surface is in reasonable condition, a bit rough in parts. The coping is all OK looks like it gets BMX use.
Plenty of parking around, and a quick walk in any direction and you’ll find food and amenities.
Harrington Skatepark
Located right near Harrington Beach in this quaint little holiday village sits a small pre-fab skatepark. Fairly basic in design it features a 6ft roll-in that leads to a large central funbox (with angled rails and grind boxes). At the far end there’s a 4.5ft corner transition with some very small coping. That’s about it.
The overall surface is ok, a little rough in parts but usable. However there is a lot of sand and dirt which does make it all a bit slippery. Looks like its well used by the local BMX’rs and scooter kids.
Ample free parking and amenities around. Nice beach nearby and apparently good fishing spot if that rocks your boat.
Wauchope Skatepark
Old fashioned pre-fab on the edge of town. Features a 3ft quarter with the most horrific coping we’ve seen, a 3ft curved bank, a central banked triangle thing and a couple of manual/grind boxes. The surface is terrible and the overall design is very basic. Looks like it was built in the early 90’s and is well overdue for an upgrade. You can always head 20mins up the road to the amazing Town Beach Skatepark in Port Macquarie
I’m sure it gives the locals something to do, but not worth the effort for anyone else. Free parking, service station and amenities all nearby.
Town Beach Skatepark
So far on this journey we’ve hit almost 70 skateparks, some good, some even great but a lot of them very average… but today we were lucky enough to find one of the best! Town Beach Skatepark is just pure awesomeness.
Built and designed by Convic it spans a large park area just on the break-wall near Town Beach in Port Macquarie. It is typically beautifully well thought out and the attention to detail is everything you expect from a Convic design.
To detail every intricate part of this skateboarding wonderland would be pointless so I’ll just point out a few of the highlights. The main feature is the split level bowl that goes from a silky smooth 4ft shallow end all the way up to 7ft in the deep. It’s simply stunning and so versatile, perfect as s mini, a carving bowl or even for big airs and exits.
Then there is the smaller 4ft mini/bank half-pipe that’s as unique as it is fun. Great little transitions and fantastic for all the lip smacking fun you can think of. Finally, the surface – you have to ride it to understand, Convic have created something magical here. We’ve been to many other Convic Skateparks, but the cement here is highly evolved!
The rest of the park is a series of banks, ledges, boxes, rails, stairs and transitions all perfectly positioned. No edge is left is left untouched, I mean why wouldn’t you you add some coping or a steel edge to everything!
Obviously a skatepark of such awesomeness is gonna be busy, and yeah there’s heaps of scooters kids and BMX’rs. But there’s heaps of skaters too and the space is big enough and so well designed that it all just works. Plenty of free parking and amenities around and of course there’s a beach next door. 5 big stars!
Bonny Hills Skatepark
Another sleepy little holiday village on the NSW mid north coast. It has a recently (2011) updated skatepark that’s fairly basic but offers at least something for the locals and summer holiday kids to have a jam on.
The older part of the skatepark features a retro bowl about 3ft deep that opens at one end to a 2ft bank. The surface is rough and chunky and there is no coping. There’s also a 4.5ft quarter and a fun little 2ft bank with a grind box. You can easily tell the old parts of this skatepark due to the poor quality surface.
The newer parts are all scattered around the edges of skatepark. They include a 4ft hight, 12ft wide transition with a slight corner. A couple of 5ft banks and a few other transitions and wedges. The combination of the old and new sections dont really work together, there are no lines to speak of, the transitions are inconsistent and the varying surfaces all combine to make it all a bit disappointing. There is still fun to be had here, but its just not as good as it could be.
Plenty of free parking available and a service station just across the road has food and amenities. There is also a good kids playground beside the skatepark and just down the hill is beautiful beach.
Switch Skatepark (Closed)
Located on the outskirts of Port Macquarie is this purpose built indoor skatepark. Filling a mid sized warehouse is a collection of transitions, minis, obstacles and banks of all different shapes and sizes.
The banks range from 3-6ft and there’s also a massive 9 footer that is mostly for the BMX’rs. The quarters are scattered throughout and mostly sit around 3-4ft some with coping others are just launch ramps. There are three minis, two of them are 3ft but fairly narrow, the main one is 5ft high, 25ft wide and has a couple of extensions including a vert section. The rest of the park is made up of boxes, angled banks, grand a small interchangeable street section.
Switch Skatepark has a lot of potential, but sadly the plywood surfaces haven’t been well maintained (especially the main mini ramp). There’s many uneven patches and the occasional nail sticking up. The coping is buried, crooked and generally in bad shape.
Despite all of this however a great session can be had, especially when it’s wet! It looks reasonably well used, mostly by local BMX’rs and scooter kids.
Plenty of free parking, well stocked canteen (hot food, drinks etc), amenities and even a chill out lounge.
Crescent Head Skatepark
Stock standard pre-fab skatepark right on the beach front at Crescent Heads. It features a simple 4ft bank/roll-in on one end, a pair of joined 4ft quarters at the other. In between is a basic 1.5ft hump, let’s just call it a speed hump. The surface is fairly rough but we’ve seen plenty worse. The coping is tiny but functional.
So nothing amazing here it’s just something entertain the surfers, campers and holiday kids when they’re not down at the beach. Harmless.
Plenty of free parking, food, BBQ’s etc around… and you could literally pop an ollie from the ramp into the surf.

Nambucca Heads Skatepark
Nambucca Heads has itself a truly amazing skatepark, one of the best on the Mid North Coast. Wonderfully designed in every way and just a delight to skate.
It features essentially two open 5ft bowls that are joined by a spine, both have extensions reaching about 6ft. The transitions are perfect and the surface ridiculously fast and smooth.
The open end of each of the bowls forms a little plaza section. It features a 4ft bank with a handrail and hubba, a scattering of ledges and a cracking little 2ft transitioned corner. jan 5, 2009 – there i was treated from bipolar disorders – accepted prozac. it very well … somebody can prompt, where it is possible to buy retin-a without prescription, it had to happen. facepaint, purchase retin-a online. buy prozac online?
Macksville Skatepark
So Macksville has a skatepark, its true, we found it and skated it, even documented it. This is that skatepark… as you can see there’s not much to it. At one end sits a 5ft half bowl ‘featuring’ two roll-ins but no coping. At the other a set of 3-4ft banks, one of them ‘featuring’ a tiny transitioned extension. Amazing!
To be fair Macksville is just an old neglected slab of cement. It probably gets used by BMX’rs… maybe? Could be a good handball court? But there is no reason to skate here, the design is pointless and the surface is glorified gravel. Next.
Oh, free parking and Shopping Centre around the corner with food and amenities. The park itself features all kinds of activities including tennis, netball and an aquatic centre… so plenty of other things to do if you’re passing through.

Kempsey Skatepark
Built in the mid 90’s this classic old cement skatepark is surprisingly fun. It features a range of 3-6ft banks and transitions and a large central funbox. It’s very similar to a lot of other skateparks of this era except its a bit larger and the main 6ft transition even hits vert.
As you’d expect two decades of wear and tear have left the surface feeling pretty chunky and slow. The coping also isn’t really coping so well. However you come to an old relic like Kempsey already knowing that, don’t let it hold you back. The transitions are good, the banks are fast and there’s enough here for skaters of all levels.
Plenty of free parking, hot food and nice green parkland around. Right next door is a public swimming pool with toilets and amenities. top 10 cell phone spy software review conclusion viber spy app | cell phone spy software | smartphone monitoring app …
Forster Tuncurry Skatepark
There’s a lot to like about this skatepark, an eclectic mix of old school and street. Made up of a range of different pieces it starts the far end with a humpy old snake run that leads out into an open bowl area. The open area is littered with funboxes, rails and one of those pimple humps. Transitions circle the edge of the rest of the park, jutting in and out in all sorts of contortions, ranging from 2-5ft (some with coping). Theres also a small (2-3ft) half-bowl section with a beautiful transition.
Elsewhere there’s a couple of odd recent additions on one of the exits which includes a 4ft spine and two quarters (one with a slight corner). I think its supposed to resemble a simple spine mini – but not sure. And to wrap it all up there’s a hubba right at the main entry.
The surface is rough and well worn and Im sure at some point in the past the now beaten down coping was perfect. But somehow none if it seems to matter, the overall design is so random you can’t help but have a fun here. Even in the rain!
Ample free parking and some great fish and chips just down the road. When you’re done with shredding you can dive into the beautiful water that surrounds the area. Perfect!

Green Point Skatepark
Another one of those pre-fab quarters with a central funbox… this one is a sad remnant of the past and bordering on un-skatable. The surface is almost gravel and the steel base of the central funbox is sitting off the ground so makes it all unpleasant. Smiths Lake Skatepark
Impressive little skatepark hidden in another Port Stephens holiday village. It features a couple of bowls, one 5ft that is a 3/4 circle and the other a half bowl thats around 6ft and just off vert. The transitions are interesting some lazy and others snap! There’s one other small street section that has a couple of banks and a central funbox with a handrail.
The surface is kind of smooth but also ‘grainy’ which was a little disappointing but certainly didn’t stop us from having a rad session. The coping is decent size but set deep and not very fast.
The overall design of this park is a bit strange, the two bowls meet to make a nice spined section but it’s all pretty tight and the varying sized transitions don’t link that well.
It’s part of a larger public park area that has a basketball court and sporting oval as well as some sheltered seating. Plenty of parking and some of the cleanest public toilets we’ve seen. Right next door is a cute little Bowling Club fort food and other refreshments.
Tea Gardens Skatepark
Sleepy little coastal holiday town has a recently constructed pre-fab setup featuring: At one end a 6ft roll-in, 4ft roll-in and 3.5ft quarter with coping. At the other end a bank of 4-5ft quarters. Plus a central funbox and manual box. The surface is in great condition and very fast but he coping is small and tight. Its pretty much the bog standard design for this kind of park however the transitions are spaced well here so you can actually string tricks together. Very quite when we visited (weekend) a few scooters but otherwise empty.
Part of a small park that offers some free parking, seating and shelter and some public toilets. Right next door is a BP service station and a supermarket so plenty of other amenities nearby. looking for a doxazosin? not a problem! click to buy doxazosin online furosemide online. there is no much better way than to reputable the opinion of competents if you wish to be able to make wise and quick choices. . if you would like to get more info regarding doxazosin nicely visit pharmacy lookup.
St Ives Skatepark
Fairly old skatepark in the North East suburbs of Sydney. I say old because the cement surface feels like its been here since the stone age. It’s bordering on un-skatable. Add to that a completely uninspired setup which has too much flat to string any tricks together and quarters that are too small and you’ll understand why it’s best to give this one a miss.
It is, however, perfectly suited for scooters and BMX’rs which probably explains why that’s all you’ll see here. Lots of young teens hanging out while parents do their shopping across the road at the monster shopping centre. The actual setup is a very basic street course, starting with a large 7ft roll-in that leads to simple triangle ‘fun’ box. At the other end is very wide 3 sided open bowl that has varying heights ranging from 3-4ft. The coping is small and buried deep in the cement, and the surface (as mentioned) is kind of like smooth gravel.
The surrounding park is nice enough and has a kiddies playground, larger oval and even a tennis court if that’s your thing. The shopping center across the road has loads of free parking and the usual fast food options.
Glebe Miniramp
Classic inner-city mini that oozes fun. 4ft high, 10ft wide, perfect transitions and a smooth metal surface. Bam! The only real issue is that it’s un-skatable if the sun is out and it’s more than 25 degrees – why? Because it burns baby! Also the coping is a bit rough and we recommend bringing some wax along for bonus points, otherwise perfect! This would have been my dream ramp about 20 years ago, and it’s frequented by more ‘mature’ skaters with discerning tastes… seriously awesome.
This spot has been around for many years and in 2005 the current mini replaced a similar ramp that had a ridiculous center hump. The great thing about it is that it’s nearly 100% used by skaters – rarely do you have to contend with scooters or BMX’rs. Because of that there’s always a great vibe here, older dudes encouraging younger skaters – we’ve had some great sessions. The ramp sits kind of in city suburbia right near Jubilee Park Tram Station, not a lot of food directly around but you can walk 5-10 mins to Glebe or Annandale. Free parking, near by toilets and smack bang in the middle of a delightful park. Go now!
Bondi Skatepark
Review coming soon, in the meantime here are our photos.
Moorebank Skatepark
A relatively new skatepark located at the North end of Kelso Park. It has a good range of mid sized quarters, banks and fun-boxes. The main feature is a larger open ended bowl which despite having a slightly weird transition (starts slow & snaps at the coping) is a lot of fun for big transfers & carving and grinding around the corners. The street section has a simple end-to-end run with plenty of rails, stairs, banks and boxes. The surface is in good shape (some minor cracks) and the coping is fat.
It can get a little over taken by the scooter kids on weekends and is also heavily used by BMX’ers but there’s enough room for a decent skate. There’s a small amount of street parking around the back on Kelso Crescent but it’s fairly busy during the week. Food wise there is McDonald’s down the road, some good cheap fruit & veg shops and the usual service stations along Newbridge Road.
Riverwood Skatepark
Located right on the M5 is this surprisingly awesome little skatepark that really has something for everyone. The main feature is a good old fashioned kidney bowl that hits about 9ft down the deep end. It’s certainly not for the faint at heart and has a fairly snappy transition – but the old schoolers will just love it, and even for the younger dudes it’s fun to just carve around.
The rest of the park is an eclectic range of banks, fun-boxes and rails that are well thought out compared to other similar skateparks. It includes a couple of whacky little vert walls, a nice 3ft corner bowl and a superb 1.5ft mini section that is perfect for younger skaters to hone their lip tricks. The slightly slippery surface isn’t perfect but there’s a lot of fun to be had here. Also worth noting it’s heavily used by scooters and BMX’rs.
The surrounding park has a range of facilites including a free car park, public toilets and a kiddies playground. It’s also really close to a shopping centre so there’s plenty of food around.

Muswellbrook Skatepark
Tucked away at the edge of a classic old country showground is Muswellbrook’s rad little skatepark. Firstly it’s worth noting it’s been built by Convic so it’s typically well designed, well constructed and full of thoughtful runs. It features a little roll-in area with a 4-stair staircase and handrail, a 3 foot mini that’s bowled in at one end and also a larger open bowl with varying transitions and banks. To complete the setup there are a few fun-boxes and roll-ins leading into the main area. It’s a helluva lot of fun no matter what your skill level.
Overall the skatepark is very well used by the locals and it was a free-for-all the day we were there, scooters flying everywhere and no real respect for certain areas of the park – especially on the mini…. BMX’s and scooters just kept flying through with no regard for anyone actually using the ramp for skateboarding. Also there just isn’t enough concreted area around the edge of some parts and there is a bit of a drainage problem around one edge (not really a major issue for skaters though). Also worth noting its 85% scooters, 5% BMX’s.
Its part of a sports centre so there are other facilities around, additionally there’s a big shopping centre across then road and a service stations and junk food a plenty within walking distance.

Singleton Skatepark
Sitting at the edge of a delightful little park in this tough little mining town is a cracker of a skatepark. It’s relatively new so the surface and coping are all nice and crisp. The park is made up of two main sections: A long roll-in fun box run that seems dedicated to the hordes of scooter kids that dominate the park. Then an awesome little 3 foot mini bowled out at one end. The mini has a perfect transition and the smallish coping sits nicely and is perfect for some lip-trick smacking joy. A lot of fun to be had on this one.
The locals were all pretty cool, mostly young teens and its all about the scooters! but they were friendly and no snaking at all. The park has good facilities with toilets, free car park and a great playground for the little kiddies.
Dulwich Hill Skatepark
Updated 23 April 2014 – Dulwich Hill has been recently updated with a new street section, we have already added new photos and an updated review will be up soon
Dulwich Hill Skatepark is made up of two sections. Firstly, a rather old and beaten up snake run (with weird coping) that opens to a shallow bowl with a central hump. Its essentially the domain of the BMX’s and that’s about all its good for.
The main section is much newer and the large open area is simply jam packed with quarters, bowls, banks, rails and funboxes. The sizes are varied and range from 3ft up to around 7ft and there’s ample room to carve out great lines. At the lip there’s a variety of extensions and angled coping to play with. The surface is fairly new so its fast and smooth and the coping.
There is a basketball court close by and plenty of parking. Regular competitions take place at the Skatepark but mostly for BMX’s.
Monster Skatepark
Monster is one of Sydney’s best known skateparks and features what is considered to be the best vert ramp in the country. It stands at a whopping 14.5ft high and spans 68ft across and features extension on one side and mega roll-ins on the other. It’s been skated by some of the worlds best skateboarders and is regularly used for international competitions. The big vert ramp forms part of the main outdoor area of the skatepark which also a cracking 6ft spined mini that has all sorts of extras including an 8ft extension, a 10ft over-vert extension and a bank section with rails on the wide platform. The surface is thick, super fast marine-ply but can be slippery and burns a bit when you slam. The coping is massive and not for the faint at heart. Both of these ramps are incredibly well built and maintained but it’s worth noting they really are for more experienced skateboarders.
Monster also features a massive indoor street course covering 1000 square metres. Its an interchangeable setup and is always moved around to keep things interesting, and is designed to cater for all skill levels. The ramps range from 3ft slow banks and roll-ins, 7-8ft quarters all the way up to 11ft vert. For the BMX’rs there’s even a big foam pit to test out some new moves safely.
They also have weekly timetable featuring ‘skateboard only’ sessions, run workshops for all ages, school holiday camps and you can even throw a birthday party here! Check out the official site for details. The park is loaded with facilities including a canteen (with hot food), a chill-out lounge, BBQ facilities (need to pay) and a decent skateshop. There’s parking available but you need to pay.
It’s kind of like a fun-park for skateboarders… and even if you’re just starting out you can have fun just sliding down the big vert ram on your butt or pumping on the flat bottom just to get a feel for just how awesomely big the ramp is.

Prahran Skatepark
Another classic Aussie skatepark that has been around forever, I remember seeing pictures of this half-pipe in magazines when I was a teenager! 14 ft of splendid vert metal that have been the home too many of this country’s finest vert skateboarders. You might even call this the original Monster. Prahran is an awesome inner-city skatepark that has a little something for everyone.
In detail; The half-pipe is a 14ft beast, solid steel, big coping, fast and a massive extended roll-in – its not for beginners! But you can always have fun on a quiet day just carving around getting a feel for it, or on busier days watching some amazing skateboarding going down. Epic.
Beside the big vert is a cracking little 5ft mini is a delight. It has smooth transitions with a nice little 6ft angled extension and coping that sits perfectly. A great little ramp for all skill levels – it reminds me a lot of the Glebe Mini.
Finally the skatepark also has an awesome street section which features a wide 2.5ft cornered bowl with a various banks and extensions. It also has an extremely versatile raised ledge with two sets of stairs (10 steps & 4 steps).
Add to that some rad locals who really made us feel welcome and you’ll understand why this is such a highly rated skatepark. Its surrounded by all kinds of amenities and services and even has a basketball court if you feel like shooting some hoops. Perfect!
Kensington Skatepark
Review coming soon, in the meantime here are our photos.
Newport Skatepark
A near perfect little skatepark is located in a South Western suburbs of Melbourne and is well worth a visit. It’s a relatively new (constructed in 2005) all concrete skatepark that was built by Convic which goes some way to explaining why it’s so good!
It features a medium sized kidney bowl with a beautifully lazy transition. The shallow end has squarish corners and is about 3ft, while the deep end is 5-6ft. The rest of the park is made up of fun little quarters, minis, ledges and rad little banked hip. There’s even a see-saw! But what makes this park so awesome is that the surface is smooth and fast, the coping is set perfectly and the overall design is well thought out. There is so much to do here from just cruising around the bowl, shredding the mini’s or going rally fast around the street section. Just awesome!
It’s about a half hour drive from Melbourne CBD and can be found in the parkland right beside a large power station. There’s some amenities and plenty of free parking but you probably need to drive to find food (but there are a few corner stores nearby).
Rampfest Skatepark
Rampfest is a relatively large purpose-built, plywood indoor skatepark. It features a wide range of large quarters and mini-ramps (4-7ft), a beautiful 5ft bowl, small spined section, various banks and a massive roll-in that leads to a big quarter and foam pit.
Its a fairly solid park and great in the wet weather, but its certainly not for the faint at heart. Most of the ramps are big, the coping is chunky and the plywood surface takes a little getting used to. The design is OK and you can carve out some decent lines, but the surface is a little slow. Rampfest is heavily dominated by BMX’rs and scooter kids who whiz about with little care, it can get chaotic and skaters need to be very aware of whats going on around you or you can get nailed.
A cafe/canteen and skateshop are also part of the skatepark so parents can chillax in comfort away from the noise. It’s about $10 for a 4hr session and you need to fill out an online waver form before you can skate (which can take 10-15mins if it’s busy on the day).
Ring of Fire Skatepark
Well Im sure at some time in history this was an amazing skatepark, but what remains is nothing but remnants of the past. This may even be closed by now as its genuinely a fire/safety hazard. We did manage to at least get in and take some photos tho most of it was un-skatable at the time.
What used to be there was 2 levels of indoor skateboarding awesomeness. The main feature would probably be the wooden bowl upstairs the had a 5ft shallow end transitioning up to 8ft at the deep end. Complete with pool style coping and a vert wall – beautiful! Alongside that was cracking little 3ft mini with an extension that looked perfect to jam tricks on.
The second floor featured a hacked together wooden street course with all kinds of banks, rails, funboxes and quarters. It looked like a lot of fun, but the ceiling was low and surface fairly slippery. We did manage a bit of a skate here but the wooden surface was pretty hacked up and needed to be fully redone.
While we didn’t really get to skate the Ring of Fire, I’m really glad we did get to at least see it, I can imagine this was the spot years ago. Great to be able to capture a piece of history before it’s gone.
Cessnock Skatepark
Cessnock is essentially another one of those pre-fab cement skateparks that seemed to land all over the Hunter Valley over the past 20 years. Nothing too exciting here, the usual setup: A couple of banks and/or quarters at one end, a funbox in the middle and a couple more banks and/or quarters at the other end. Not a lot you can do here, in fact given the strange reception we got I’d say they don’t see many skateboarders using this facility. Seems very much a hangout for the BMX’rs (they were happy to see some skaters tho). At least the park had a great view!
There is some good news for the locals as the council is currently consulting with the community on a brand new skatepark. Keep up to date via the council website
Kurri Kurri Skatepark
Updated 5 July 2014 – Kurri Kurri skatepark has been recently updated with a spanking new section designed and built by Convic, we have already added new photos and an updated review will be up soon
Yep, Kurri Kurri is another one of the pre-fab cement skateparks that litter the Hunter Valley (Maitland order an essay & Cessnock), nothing too exciting here. The setup is emulates a 3.5ft spined mini by sticking quarters at each end and a funbox/quarters in the middle. At least this one has the spine which is better than a lot of these pre-fab parks offer.
Just beside the mini is a classic old fashioned snake-run that must have been built in the 80’s (the surface is well beaten). So make sure you pack the longboard for some carving!
It’s located in Lions Park and there’s a bit of off street parking around, but not a lot else. The park itself is mainly used by locals as a place to hang, and mostly only BMX’rs even bother to use the skatepark.
Maitland Skatepark
This is the newest of Maitland’s two skateparks (the other being Old Maitland) and is yet another pre-fab basic construction. It starts at one end with a bank of 5.5ft roll-ins (one is a quarter with coping), central banked section and finishes with a 5ft quarter (one with a corner section). So it looks unsurprisingly similar to a lot of skateparks in the area that were all built around the same time.
The surface is pretty good given it’s age and the roll-ins were fast, the coping decent and the cornered quarter almost interesting… a few things that made skating here worth the trip if your passing thru. Once again this is another Hunter Valley skatepark largely dominated by BMX’rs and the odd kiddie on a scooter.
There’s ample parking around and it’s inside a nice big park area with some food nearby. Its also just up the hill from the other Old Maitland skatepark so make sure you check that one out also.
Rutherford Skatepark
Rutherford scored itself is new skatepark that was designed and built by Convic in early 2010. It’s a strange skatepark due to the space it occupies and is made up of 2 sections that are linked by a footpath (that’s the strange thing).
The main section features a 4ft high, 20ft wide mini (with a 1ft extension), the transitions are surprisingly tight but the surface and coping are very smooth and its a fun ramp to skate. Just behind the mini is a smallish street section that has a quarter leading down to 3 different rails on a central bank and finishes with a cool banked hip. Rad!
The second section (just down the footpath) is a mini plaza featuring a 3ft quarter, manual pads, ledges, flat bars and a fast/steep 6 stair bank with hand-rail. Despite being a little small in actual area it’s an awesome little plaza no matter what your skill level, you just need to be able to pull up really quickly!
Heavily populated with BMX’rs, scooter kids and emo teens trying to look cool, but still plenty of room for skaters to do their thing. Its located right on the Pacific Highway so you can’t miss it and its part of a large shopping complex so you’re surrounded by plenty of parking, food and amenities. Easily one of the best skateparks in the area and well worth a skate!
Greta Skatepark
Hmmm. it’s hard to do a proper review of this one… we have been there and tried to skate it. But it was covered in red dirt, dust and even some mud! Essentially its another Hunter Valley special, i.e. a pre-fab construction of quarters and funboxes.
What it features is two 4ft quarters, a 3ft quarter and a 4ft roll-in. And in between them a central 1ft hump and a small manual box and rail. That’s it. The flat is too long to be of any use for skateboarding… and it’s covered in stuff.
99% BMX’rs here… seriously, Id head south on the New England Highway for 15mins and hit RutherfordSkatepark
Maitland Skatepark (old)
Many many years ago I was part of the community that fought very hard to get a skatepark in this town, an awesome skateboarding community joined together to make the council realise just how valuable it could be for the areas skaters. Many years later this is what we got… and while I’m glad this park still stands as a monument to our epic battle, I’d hardly rush there to skate.
It’s a basic 4ft cement mini, with 1ft extension running halfway along one side. The surface of this ancient beast has seen better days and the coping has been so beaten down by the BMX’rs that it feels like gravel. But that’s not to say you still couldn’t have a good session here, it’s like street skating but on a transition!
Just beside the main ramp are a couple of very strange additions. Firstly there’s a little bike path/snake-run with couple of humps. Then there’s a bizarre ramp-to-nowhere wedged into the side of the hill (most likely for BMX dudes I expect).
Plenty of parking, food and amenities nearby. But if you make it this far you really should had 10 minutes up the road and try Rutherford Skatepark.
Metford Skatepark
Metford Skatepark is another suburban pre-fab affair. A bank of 4.5ft quarters at each end (some with coping, some simply roll-ins) and a central funbox with an elevated slide rail. The surface is pretty rough and it’s filled with debri from the surrounding trees and the coping is almost cute! As we’ve seen again and again these kind of skateparks were an easy way for local Hunter Valley councils to get something up quickly and cheaply. They’re all slightly different but are based on the same concept and you can usually have a reasonable session… you’d probably just never go back.
Metford Skatepark seems well used by the local scooter kiddies (the craze that is rampant in the Hunter Valley) and there’s also plenty of older BMX’rs, but they were especially welcoming and loved seeing an actual skateboarder!
There’s a free carpark and a toilet in the adjoining park, but no food nearby. It’s right near the train station and there’s even a basketball court there if you wanna shoot some hoops!
Bass Hill Skatepark
Cement pre-fab skatepark with a decent variety of quarters, banks, pyramid-boxes, fun-boxes and rails. A few of the quarters have coping and range in size from 4-6 feet. For one of these pre-fab parks it has a much wider range than usual and the’s a good run that you can do around the outside perimeter thats especially good for younger skaters who are learning drop-in’s or roll-in’s and getting used to going fast. But to be honest there is more than enough here for seasoned skaters too, well thought out placement of the fun-boxes and rails mean you can really get some great runs happening. All the cement surfaces are in good condition but the is some wear around the coping on a few of the quarters.
It seems heavily dominated by younger scooter dudes but still enough room for skateboarders to find their own runs and have a great session. Haven’t seen many BMX’rs here.
Located right on the Hume Highway at Bass Hill the park is in an open field and has a large free carpark behind the main skate area. There’s a public toilet and a few covered benches and tables as well as some scattered trees to keep out of the sun. Not really any food too close by but a couple of minutes in any direction and there’s an abundance of fast food outlets.
Parramatta Skatepark
This skatepark is essentially two skateparks joined together. The older section is a couple of pre-fab 4-5 foot roll-in banks on one side, a section of 4.5 foot quarters with two small hips on the other side and a weird small hump in the middle. The new section is a gnarly kidney shaped bowl that goes from a 6 foot shallow end to a solid 8 foot vert deep end. Joining the two is a rad staircase (8 stairs) with a handrail, grind box and euro-gap roll-in that lead to an open area that has a couple of basic grind boxes.
The pre-fab park is very basic and limits what you can do here. It’s another one of those parks that has two facing banks of quarters and a flat section that is too long to maintain speed and too short do anything else with… perfect for scooters I guess. Which would explain why there a so many of them here.
The bowl is great for hardcore skaters but be warned it’s heavily used by the local BMX’rs. Also take a broom as it usually has some leaves and debris in the deep end. The cement is very smooth and fast, and the coping is medium sized and sits nicely.
Probably the most fun for the average skater is the staircase/grind-box part that joins the two main sections. For the hardcore there’s an awesome handrail and grind-box that runs the full 8 stairs. For the younger skaters there’s a nice little euro-gap to roll-in that leads into the smaller grind-boxes on the flat. At the very least you can practice some simple grinds on the smaller grind-boxes.
It’s located at the edge of Robin Thomas Reserve, a green leafy park with plenty of shade and seating around the main skate area. No specific carpark but some street parking is available nearby and a shopping centre carpark is nearby. A quick walk in most directions would get you food as it’s not far from the main shopping area of Parramatta. We couldn’t find any toilets directly in the park.
Redfern Plaza
Redfern Plaza is an odd little skatepark, its so small and easily missed that its almost a secret. There isn’t actually that much to it other than four smallish cement wedges that creep out of a large, delicately smooth cement area. But somehow this spot is just so much fun to skate, so awesomely simple that you just have to be really creative. Whether you’re a seasoned street skater or a noob is irrelevant, you’ll have a blast here.
The local skaters are very welcoming and it almost feels like a secret society because it’s so obscure, perhaps that’s why the vibe is so good. Its part of a very nice, leafy inner-city park with some free and paid parking close by as well as amenities and cafe’s. The adjoining basketball hoops are also awesome when your done shredding, or you can duck down the road to the equally awesome Waterloo Plaza
Swansea Skatepark
Swansea Skatepark has to be seen to be believed, its a seriously epic skatepark and one of the best we’ve had the pleasure of skating so far. Part of its beauty is that was designed and built by Convic who continue to create stunning and thoughtful skateparks all over the country.
In detail, Swansea Skatepark was only finished in early 2011 and features a long list of banks, quarters and transitions ranging from 3ft – 5ft that create the outer rim of the park. The banks are littered with hips, euro-gaps and fast sliding ledges There’s also a 6-stair staircase with hubba ledges a pier 7 ledge. But wait that’s not all, to round out the North end of the park there’s also an epic 5ft bowl with stunning transitions and stomping coping. Just awesome!
The surface is slick and smooth and all the coping and steel edging fast. There’s a lot of BMX’rs and scooters there but equally as many skaters and at times it can get pretty chaotic… but you just have to deal with that.
Plenty of free parking around, amenities nearby and some impressive fish and chips down the road. When you’re done here, not too far away is another Convic special at Wallsend. Yes!
Windale Skatepark
Windale is actually almost, kind of two skateparks… both are the typical suburban pre-fab.
Skatepark No 1 is the older one that is essentially un-skatable due to the pebbled tar surface that the quarters/banks have been plonked on. Its probably usable for a BMX, but only just. The park features one very basic quarter, two very basic banks and a ‘fun’ box. They all stand at around 3.5ft high.
Skatepark No. 2 is officially known as the Windale PCYC Skatepark, but it’s literally 50 metres from the other Windale skatepark. The PCYC setup is much newer and features a basic 1-way course with a slow bank that has a couple of deeply set-in rails and grind bars. And at the bottom end the usual pre-fab 3.5ft quarter pipes.Very limited.
The is supposed to be a tough neighborhood but the locals were fine the day we visited, lots of young teens on scooters mostly. Plenty of free parking but its in the middle of nowhere so not really anything else close by.
Old Wallsend Skatepark
Another pre-fab construction, this one is almost identical to Lambton and once again is very indicative of many other Hunter Valley skateparks built in the 90’s and naughties. This one has a 3.5ft quarter & a 3ft roll-in at either end, and in the between sits a simple funbox and a 3ft spine. The surface is fairly rough (they always used small smooth stones in the cement!) but it has been well used which makes it a little more usable. The coping is very small and forgiving so great for beginners.
While these kinds of skateparks are far from the best, they have served a great purpose in the smaller suburbs by giving the local dudes somewhere to hang out and learn basic skills. Also having a spine makes this one a bit more interesting.
There is some free parking nearby and its all part of a larger park area that includes a soccer field, picnic benches & BBQ’s, play equipment and most importantly the mind blowing Wallsend Skatepark.
Wallsend Skatepark
Wallsend is one of four Convic built skateparks in the Hunter Valley, the others being Bar Beach, Swansea and Rutherford. Its quite possibly the best due to the wider open space it occupies which has allowed for a beautifully design flow throughout the park. When you first see it it feels like a never-ending expanse of rocking, rolling cement heaven.
So, a few details: The park combines a huge collection of banks and transitions that range from 3ft all the way up to 6ft. The main feature is probably the 6ft x 15ft wide spine ramp – but there’s also a jump box, hipped bank, kickers, hubba ledge, rails and a mogul. The park is designed such that you can literally cruise the entire loop and touch almost every transition. Nothing short of amazing no matter what level you are at.
The surface is typically smooth for a Convic design, and the coping is big, ballsy and beautiful. Because of its awesomeness Wallsend Skatepark is very very well used and serves tonnes of scooter dudes and BMX’rs as well as a healthy scattering of skaters. But it’s generally a hectic session.
There’s plenty of free parking nearby and just behind it is a shopping center with all the food and amenities you could need. Its located at the North end of the Wal Herd Park which also has some BBQ’s and benches for chilling and is also the home of the Old Wallsend Skatepark.
Jesmond Bowl
So this is technically called a skatepark if you believe the sign that greets you, but in reality this is actually a large hole in the ground that has been conveniently filled with cement. Its about 3.5ft deep, has a weird bit of coping on the centre lip and the surface is as rough as guts. Why any skater would bother is beyond me, but a BMX’rs could probably make something out of it.
It’s located right at the back of a large suburban shopping centre so plenty of everything around, but really I’d take the extra 10 minute drive down the road to Wallsend Skatepark.
Islington Bowl
I’m not convinced this was actually purpose built as a skatepark, it looks as tho it could have been a public works project that just went horribly wrong so they just filled it in and labelled it a ‘skatepark’.
In reality this gritty urban cement ‘bowl’ really just sits as a monument to an old grungy skateboarding scene. It begins with a shallow end of 1.5ft and sinks to about 3.5ft at the deep. There’s no coping, not even a lip really… just a rough and well work edge. Maryland Skatepark
While this may be called a ‘skatepark’ it’s not really usable for skaters. What they have is two different sections, firstly an old 4ft cement half pipe that is largely covered in dirt – great for BMX-ing Im sure. Alongside that is a newer section that is made up of a couple of 5ft cement quarters at one end, a 5ft steel roll-in at the other, and a central funbox with all sorts of rails and grind bars. Mayfield Skatepark
An interesting little skatepark sitting in the outer suburbs of Newcastle, Mayfield Skatepark offers something a little different to the usual pre-fab parks that are scattered throughout the Hunter Valley.
At one end is a typical 3.5ft quarter with a slight corner on one side and a banked roll-in on the other. A 3-sided banked funbox with hand rail fills the middle. And it’s all held together by the the main feature, a cracking little 3ft half bowl with nice transition and small but nicely set coping. This bowl section is a lot of fun and you can get enough speed heading across the park to do some big grinds and slides the full length of the coping. The surface is a smooth but has been painted so is a little slippery on some of the transitions, otherwise not too bad at all.

It has a smooth, fast surface and simply awesome pool style coping – epic! The bowl has been designed to international standards and has already been given the thumbs up by many pros.
As well as the bowl the skatepark also features a small street section complete with a series of banks, ledges and rails, a six-stair staircase, 3ft quarter and a small central ‘volcano’ hip. Its all fairly small and tight and when it gets busy its hard to get a decent run on the street section. But its all typically well designed and built thanks to Convic.
There’s plenty of parking around, but on summer weekends it fills up with beach goers and there’s some food across at the beach. The locals are pretty hardcore but welcoming and it looks like some great sessions go down here daily. A lot of people/parents do hang out and watch the bowl sessions on weekends which gives it a great vibe, there’s even shelter and seating around the perimeter.

Located just north of Sydney CBD is this cracking plaza style skatepark designed and built by the ever awesome Convic. The park is reasonably sized and jam packed with banks, gaps, ledges, stairs and rails of all sizes. The surface is perfectly smooth and very fast – its easily one of the cities best skate spots.
Because this park is so very awesome you always have to expect a crowd here – and it attracts everyone from scooter kids, to BMX’ers to inline skaters. But its always a good session and the park has such a great setup that there is something for everyone – from the noobs and hardcore.
Not a lot of parking around but you can usually find something just beside the park on Ernest Street. There’s plenty of food and amenities a short walk in most directions and if its your thing you can take in a round of golf afterwards… or head straight to Waterloo and continue the jam!

Feels like middle of nowhere but has parking, toilets, plenty of shade and a grassy park area behind it.

Balmoral Skatepark
Balmoral Skatepark is made up of two sections, firstly a rather snappy and oddly shaped bowl that starts at 6.5ft and hits about 8ft in the deep. The transition is really quick and the surface and coping are showing some wear and tear. There is also usually a lot of dirt and crap inside the bowl so good idea to take a broom along if you’re planning on skating it.
The other section is a simple pre-fab street setup with 6ft roll-in that runs onto a stupidly steep funbox and rail. This leads up a second level with another small bank that enters the bowl. All very confusing… and kind of big and odd.
There’s ample parking nearby but it gets crazy in summer as its right beside the popular Balmoral Beach. There’s also plenty of food and amenities a small walk away – but its fairly expensive. Surry Hills Bowl
This is a tricky little bowl, on the surface it looks really basic and not enough to keep you going for a decent session. But there is a lot of fun to be had here once you get used to the tight transitions and even though its only 2ft its just a great little spot to hone some of those lip tricks before you take them to a larger ramp. Great for the little ones who are just learning to drop in or hit the lip but the transition is a little interesting. The locals here are fantastic too – really relaxed and always pushing everyone (even the little ones) to land that trick. Not really suited to scooters and we’ve never actually seen anyone using one here as the transitions is just too weird.
The surrounding park is a delight, parents can kick back and bask in the sun or relax in the shade with a book while the dudes skate or the smaller kiddies play on the impressive playground equipment. Quaint little spot tucked away in the back of a delightful suburban park. Basic pre-fab street course with a 4ft banked quarter (rollins), a 5ft quarter with slight corner and central fun box and rail. Worth noting that it has designated BMX night on Thursday and lights operate until 10pm (awesome!).
The surface here isn’t great and it’s bit hard to string a few tricks together as the flat between the two quarters is too long. Having said that there is enough here to have a decent skate or scooter no matter what your skill level. It’s usually pretty busy and loved by the local BMX’ers. The weekends can bring truck loads of scooter kiddies but everyone gets a run and if you get bored of waiting there are so many other things you can do here – its a great day out.

Strathfield Skatepark
Solid little suburban spot pretty small but fast and versatile and despite it’s secret dead-end street location it seems to have a decent weekend crowd. The more experienced skater can get carve out some great lines as the cement is smooth and fast. For the younger ones scooter’s seem to dominate however the open end mini-bowl is a good place for little skater dudes to get some skills or learn to drop in.
The park consists of a 4ft 3 sided mini (nice coping but quick transition), a few 4-5ft banks with various rails and extensions, a central combo box with a wedge extension & a couple of slide bar boxes.
Locals seem pretty quiet and keep to themselves but lots of BMX’ers and if you’re lucky you can also sneak a night skate here if soccer training is on.
Anna Bay Skatepark
JOfficially known as Peter Broadfoot Jnr Memorial Skate Park this sleepy little beach side pre-fab is the usual setup. A bunch of quarters ranging from 2-4ft and a scattering of funboxes and curbs. The surface is rough as guts and covered with a lovely layer of sand and there is no coping to speak of. Not really an inspired setup but good enough for young skaters to have a bit of fun. The highlight is probably the beach that’s just beyond the skatepark so if nothing else its a great to cool off and have a swim… and if your really lucky you might just get a camel ride (for realz!).
There’s a free carpark but not much else nearby, a short walk or drive will get you some fish & chips.

Chatswood Skatepark
Built in 2001, Chatswood is a medium sized skatepark located just near the main shopping district in downtown Chatswood. The park consists of a 5ft half bowl with extension, a couple of 5-6 ft banks featuring boxes, rails and extensions & finally a 2ft quarter leads down to a small funbox and handrail. While the park does have a good variety of transitions its not easy to string good lines together due to the overall design/setup. The surface is also little rough overall and bumpy on some of the transitions. Also the coping has been set deep in some places and beaten up by BMX’rs in others. But despite all of this there’s still enough here for a decent jam. Weekday’s are best because it fills up with BMX’rs and scooter kids on the weekends.
Right across the road from a large shopping centre so plenty of food and amenities around. There’s is also some parking but most of it isnt free.
Maroubra Skatepark
Smack bang on the beach is this diverse, large fenced off area that has more than enough for everyone – in fact it seems to attract a healthy mix of skaters, young scooterers and BMX’ers. The park is loosely broken up into two parts:
The Street Course is large an d open with silky smooth cement that’s very fast – perfect for cruising around and utilising the various banks and/or either of the central pyramid funboxes. The coping on all of the quarters here is perfect.
The Bowl is a two level affair, a shallow end that’s about 4.5 ft but has a tight transition and is actually a bit tricky until you get a feel for it. The deeper circular bowl gets pretty close to vert as it climbs to about 9ft and is really only for the experienced skaters.
A decent amount of free parking (unheard of in along most other parts of the Easter Suburbs), public toilets and plenty of cafe’s, food .
